Observe before explaining
Distinguish measurable properties from assumptions.

01
Take a closer look
Colour, physical state and solubility are examples of properties of substances. A photograph alone cannot identify the substance in a glass. Never taste unknown substances or mix them without instructions.
02
Now try it
- Describe only what you can actually see in the image. Mark every assumption.
- On paper, plan how a teacher could compare the solubility of two known solids in water. Do not carry it out without supervision.
03
Think it through
Can colour identify a substance conclusively?
See a suggested answer
No. Different substances can look alike. Identification requires further suitable investigation.
